I don't have the part number, or even a receipt. THe cummins guy cross referenced it. YOu will need it to hook up to the elbow definately though. WOn't hook straight to the turbo.

Well i didnt make a downpipe, but i went an easier way, just welded a 4" 90 on to the flange, put on a 5" tip and made me a hood stack! When i bought my he351, I asked the guy if he had the downpipe and he threw it in for $50. So i just got a 3rd gen downpipe, cut the flange off and then welded the flange to the elbow and then i had to buy a clamp and it clamped right up to my turbo, so i don't have a cast elbow. I think the clamp i got was off one of those cast elbows though, but it works.

Is it the exhaust housing that has the larger OD or the hx40 dp that has the larger OD? Couldn't you just have the one with the larger OD machined accordingly and presto the vband clamp will work perfectly.
Or am I way off here...?

They both have larger OD

the hx40 has a 4" exhaust outlet, so an HX40 downpipe is a 4" flange to 4" pipe... a normal 4" downpipe hooks to the back of your stock 3" turbo and then goes up to 4" .

hX40 downpipe is just a name, it works for S300's.. and any upgrade turbo with 4" outlet.. most turbos that is

The turbo od is larger than the pipe. The od of turbo is 4 3/8" and flat no bevel there for by the time the clamp is tight on the turbo there is still slack on the down pipe.

that was my problem with the flared peice I got for $10.40. Actually the OD was perfect on mine, but the smaller diameter was too small and the clamp bottomed out on the turbo first, leaving te pipe loose. Guess we'll either have to fork over the bigger money from sourceautomotive or just cut the elbow and weld it on.

Crossy I understand that but there is a small variance in the size on the the351 exhaust oulet in relation to the hx40 dp right? that's why the clamp bottoms out on the turbo first and leaves slack on the dp.
What I'm asking is couldn't you throw the exhaust housing on a lathe and machine it to work with the hx40 dp taking that extra material off the outlet instead of tinkering around with welding the flanges.

I would think the cost of machine work would be more than just getting the right adapter. But iam going to see if the elbow i have here is weldable keep ypu posted.

Ignore what was said above. You can get what you need from Llyod Mills here, on the 3rd GEN part of this forum..
