H1C/H1E Hybrid

I have a brand new H1E that was free to me. Looking to stick it on the 89 pulling truck. Need more air right now... and I mean RIGHT now. Just turned teh fuel screw in a little more and now I can hit 24 lbs and 1500* by 60 MPH. WAY to hot. I would like to cool it down by Hybriding the turbo. So I'm Gonna Hybrid my H1C and H1E together... Gonna call it the H1D

Heres my questions....

1. Do I HAVE to balance the shaft? I know the simple answer is Yes... Here is my reasoning though. unbalanced shafts wear out bearing right? If I put 2000 miles on this truck in the next year I will be blown away. Hell I bought it the end of Feb and have only run 2 and a half tanks of fuel through it. I would check it ALOT for shaft play and drop back and punt if it started to head south. Not really wanting to spend any $$$ on this becasue I do want to step up to a super HX40 at some point and the H1E was free. Also there is NO one around me that can balance teh shaft for me.

2. How do I get the Nuts of the wheels? If you were to just put a wrench on them it would spin. were should I hold the wheels so that it does not spin?

3. I have a 18 and 21 housing for it... Which One? The 18 will spool better put This is not a street truck... Just pulling and draging. Would the 21 let me pick up some boost/air on the top end?

24 psi doesnt seem like much boost for your temps... If your talking 1500 empty somethings up. You should fill out your sig so we know what you have. Your truck should have a 18.5 stock.

Truck is a 89 250 w/ 727, POD's, Timing bumped, BHAF, and your typical VE Mods.

With stock turbo and injectors I was seeing 35+ psi. Temps were hitting 13-1400 at the end of 5th empty.

Which PODs did you get I have the 80hp monsters and they made a world of difference. granted i have something like a 12cm or 14 cm exhaust housing on my turbo but once i put my injectors on my gauge pegs at 25psi and it slams my gauge to pegged out right after it starts spooling.

*****I wouldnt reccomend a 12cm exhaust housing for an automatic application.***

It should be OK without balancing.

The turbine end of the shaft has a 12 point bolt head on it. Remember that the compressor nut is left hand thread.

I'd run the 18. It will lug down better at the end of a pull and I don't expect that the 21 cm will run much cooler up top anyway.

Same ones... The Non-IC injectors are bigger then teh IC injectors... I think POD's are only worth about 20hp in my case.

I was wondering How you go about keeping the shaft from spinning so you can take off the wheel.

Stock Non i/c injectors are 4x12 and pods are supposedly 4x14. When you do the pie r squared math thats a fair difference.

It's a difference but nothing like starting with IC'ed injectors....

stock 1st gen inj - 6x.009" = .000380" total cross sectional area
non ic inj - 4x12 = .000452 (19% larger than ic inj)
pods - 4x14 = .000615 (62% larger than stock)

If you pull the downpipe off, there is most of a 12 point bolt head on back of the turbine. It has like a corner cut off, or something like that (possibly how Holset balances the shaft?). Takes like a 3/4 wrench I think. I used a socket on a breaker bar.
