H1 upgrades

Ok, now I know this isnt really a 1st gen question but its pretty darn close. I have seen several of you guys doing up grades on your H1's and I too am considering this on my 4bt. I plan to do twins in the future but for now just trying to get it going a little better while I save $$$$. Most of the information for the truck is in the sig below. Any imput is greatly appreciated. Please include your comp and wheel sizes along with any estimates on how it turned out, including changes in EGT's, boost level, and either butt or real dyno gains.

What exhaust housing are you running on the 4bt? A 60 mm upgrade is gonna be a pretty big turbo on there, it will be hard to get lit. I think it would run better with a 54 or 56 mm compressor off a Dodge - and somebody would probably give you one.

My dad has 2 4bt's on his shop floor right now and they both have 18.5 cm exhaust housings on them. Same size as my pickup. I would think a smaller one would help you out a lot. An 18.5 isnt exactly quick spooling on my 5.9 and prolly worse on a 3.9.

Not sure what housing is on the one on the 4BT but I actually have to H1's right now. The one on the 4bt and the one off my 6 bt. So I figured rebuild and upgrade the one and keep the other for a spare.

There are 4bt specific forums, but the hy-9, or a 54mm hx35 would be the ticket for the little turbo on that bad boy... hy9s have a pretty good wastegate, so it would work well.

Yeah, the one I am planning to work on has the 18.5 housing. Where is a good place to buy the upgrades. I hear alot of bad things about some of these Chinese places, so I wanna stay away from them.

Looking at a 12cm housing from High Tech Turbo. Anyone tried these? Would that make a big difference or should I look at changing the comp wheel too? Does changing the comp wheel require that I change the housing too?

All the way at the top of the page under the grille of the truck.

So would that 12 be to small or do you think it would be ok?

That would run good on the 4BT. With really big injectors you might find it getting a little tight though.

I think you can have either a 7mm or 9mm on a 4bt too. My uncle has a 4bt he switched from a 9 to a 7 because his head was cracked.
