guage placement

i've heard a few guys saying the importance of running a boost guage and pyrometer to help with diagnosis as well as just simply monitering the systems. i've yet to find a good spot on my dash for it without it looking like trash (ie, cheesy little chrome bracket hanging of the bottom of the dash) so i'm wondering what ya'll have done to make it look good. factory like. i'd really love to do it where it wasn't noticable from outside the truck (so no a-pillar or on-top-of-the-dash mounting)

i'd also like to keep the factory guages in the truck.

Well, thats going to be tough to do. Just look through some of the gallery's for pictures. One member has placed the gauges in the info block on the dash.

I combined all the OEM indicator lights off to the left side (there's a proper label these days ) and snuck the pyro and boost gages in the information center.

I put 3 in where the message center was. I used faceplate material from a ham radio supply joint I found on the web. It's about 1/4 inch thick (plastic?)with enough to screw one up and still make a good one. Just cut to size and drill 3 holes. It was pretty cheap but I can't remember the place! It looks factory but if I have one complaint they aren't in the best position for a quick glance.

that looks really good and was about the only place that i could think of that would look right, but was concerned about not having the information center. but honestly, i think that with the proper guages, i don't need indicator lights. i'm no stranger to guage panels, here's a pic of my camaro:

Does your truck have AC? if you don't, I think the place on the left side where the vent would go can hold 2 2" gauges. I have mine snuck in there. Now If I had planned ahead, I wouldn't have scratched my pyro.

Pyro goes in the manifold.

There's a pipe plug in the side of head near the intake elbow, most people put the boost line there.

I have a pic of mine under my profile. I don't have A/c so I just cut out the dash plastic a little and waterjetted a guage plate. Done, works good.

My other project is making my own dash. Using aftermarket guages and what-not. I notice that the speedo could be half the size than what is in there and add a tach. Keep all the kinds of gauges but add a boost, pyro, and then room for a tranny temp and fuel pressure. I am kinda stuck between wood or Diamond plate
