Gov Spring Install

So I found this really good article on-line to install the spring.

http://dens-site.net/Dodge_CTD/Gover...ing/index.html

I wanted to know is, whether or not their is mandatory replacement seals, gaskets, etc. that I should have on hand in order to do this swap properly?

While my pump is off I am going to go ahead get the locking collar off the power screw mention in this post.

You are going to remove the pump or just the top?

To do it "right" I would replace the o-rings and seals. Probably not mandatory though.

i would not say it is mandatory but is a good thing to have a seal kit on hand when doing it. it more depends on the condition of the seals at the time of replacement. mine only had 125xxx miles on it and needed the seal between the pump top and bottom replaced. we found out the hard way. put it all back together and it started spilling diesel out everywhere.

the part number is listed in the sticky. your local bosch pump dealer should carry them and they can be found on ebay once and a while.

I had another one of them days yesterday. I went out to cfarmer's place to help him with his. The install went great, so we went for a test ride. About a mile into the test, he laid into it and the truck quit and wouldn't refire. After he called home for a ride and brought the tools back, we found that the injectors weren't shooting out fuel when cracked. Had voltage at the shutoff solenoid, solenoid clicked when the wire was pulled off and replaced. Gutted it anyway, still no start. So I pulled the torsion spring off the throttle lever to see if by some chance the governor spring had broke or come unhooked. Sure enough, it felt like it wasn't hooked up to anything. Once I got the pump top off, I was very relieved to find that the spring had somehow come unhooked from the throttle lever so I wouldn't have to go fishing in the pump for the "top hat" and spring assembly. So I've now done a 3200 RPM spring install on the side of the road.

Dave - All I've got is the side of the road
Really, just a driveway - no garage, no lift, not even trees to cool things off.

How many others?
