PM Needmopower about his. He claims temps under 200 pulling cars over the Rockies! I hit 230 running empty! I plan on using an under bed tranny cooler with an electric pump fed from the drainplug, then returning though the fill plug. She gets hot, I flip the switch, but if the system fails to operate, I can still operate the truck.

Are you talking about the 205? You could run sand fresh from the desert in a 205 and it probably wouldn't break

I think it's mopar2ya who has the home-brew trans cooler. You can also get the parts to do it from a company that deals with oval track and road racing transmissions. It's definitely a good idea on a hard working transmission.

Getrags will get smoking hot when pulling 15 big 1600 pound cows and a 28x8 (floor length) gooseneck.

I have seen them almost red with heat.

I definitely have a cooler for mine on the drawing board, along with a recirculating pump.

My opinion is that the light oil is to blame for the Getrags problems.

I sould of made my self more clear I mean that the holes are going to be drilled in the getrag transmission case. I belive the problems with the getrag over heating is the lack of oil and to small of bearings on the cluster shaft . If the case was larger and the bearing made biger the old getrag would never have failed. I would like to hear more on the mopar trans cooler so please go on. THANKS TBOLING

I think Greg's plan of using the drain and fill holes is fine and would work well on a 4X4. I'd be a little nervous about knocking off the bottom fitting on a 2wd. If you want to drill holes in the case, line up the return so it dumps on 5th gear.

What pump would be good to operate under that heat that is low pressure and low volume? Right now I have two heats sinks mounted where the PTO covers go. I also want to be able to pump the hot oil thru a filter then thru a cooler. I have switch to the NV5600 but I like the over kill idea. I have seen it get up to 215* but no higher. I want to keep it under 200*. If anyone knows of a pump thet runs on 12v DC that is low volume and low pressure please let me know. Thanks.

Those 12-volt agricultural spray pumps can be bought by themselves, without having to buy the whole spray unit.

I have heard of them being used in this application.

Northern Tool, FarmTek, Tractor Supply, etc. should carry these.

Why we are the topic, what type and weight of oil are you guys using?
Also, how many quarts does it take with over filling?

Here is a link to fastcoolers:
http://www.fastcoolers.com

$189 for the getrag.
How does oil circulate through the cooler?
