Getrag Temp???
How hot is to hot for a getrag... I've seen mine get up to 230*. That's pulling my 5er on a good hill with a 35 MPH head wind.. I also put an extra quart of oil in...
230 is an acceptable temp for the oil, but the trans would probably be happier down around 200 degrees. Mopar2ya (the million mile guy) added a cooler to his Getrag. Companies that sell circle track racing parts can get you the parts needed to do this, they use them to make rearend coolers. All you need is a pump, oil lines, and a cooler. If you want to make it automatic add a temp switch in there. Your PTO covers are gonna be covered with plumbing now...
I got a shur flo pump I can get you the part number if you want and a cooler (dodge minivan a/c condenser ) and a couple of fittings and hose. The pump mounts on my tranny crossmember and the cooler is between the body and frame. I also put a temp gauge and thermal switch in the PTO cover. Its a 180 degree switch w/ manual if I want.
Be sure to mount the pump on the outlet/discharge side of the cooler so you get the cooler oil pumped through the pump. I can keep the tranny temps under 140 on hot days pulling in 5th grossing 26K, so it works really well.
The PTO fitting are located low and high on the cover, pull the oil from low and pump it back in on the higher fitting.
