Getrag Seized and I need to plow snow...

Well, my 2nd getrag finally completley bit the dust, not sure what exactly let go, but, it's locked up solid.
I'm having a hard time locating a donor truck or a somewhat local core trans for any kind of decent price, and I need to get this thing going as soon as I can. Is there something else I can put in there, I don't care if it's a 4 speed, I just need this truck running ASAP, re-fabbing driveshafts is not a hurdle, just getting a transmission in there is.
If it wasn't for the price of the adapter plate/starter/related parts combined with my lack of my own shop to work in, I'd throw a ZF in there with a Ford 205 and the 78 Ford 60 front I have and be done once and for all.

If you get an FSM and a rebuild kit I'm sure you could have it overhauled in a day or 2.

NOthing else will bolt to the getrag bellhousing ......even an nv4500 requires a different bellhouse and adapter plate.

Thought about removing the top cover and having a look see? sounds crazy that it just seized up maybe you broke a shift fork or something and now it's lodged in there

Couldn't a worn or bent shift fork also jam it up by letting it try to be in two gears at one time?

I would open it an see what is going on, You don't need a shop to pull the top cover then decide if You want to repair it or just get something else. As said, rebuilding a getrag will take 1 day or maybe 2 with a master rebuild kit.

From a website far far away - here's a Ford NP435 bolted to the Getrag bellhousing:

13"x 1 3/8 x 10 spline disc from a 6 speed nv5600 on a np435 input gear from a 70's era F-500 ford truck

Likely more work and cost involved than rebuilding what you already have. You may need the Getrag manual to do an overhaul:

So Brandon, I guess never say never when there's an engine swapper lurking?

Yes there are lots of complete rebuild kits available. You could have one air freighted to you next day, then a day or two to do the re/re. But as stated open it up first to see what's going on.

I saw one getrag locally that the shift forks actually melted from it getting so hot from a lack of fluid. It was locked solid!!

If it is seized then the case may be welded to the shafts. Have a looksy for sure.

I'm pretty sure some bearings and or some hard parts self destructed, it kicked itself into neutral, refused to go back into any gears and then I got a nice squeak and it locked up solid, locked the wheels and killed the engine. I don't think it's a simple shift fork issue. I need to drag it to a shop and get it inside for a while so I can work on it... Stupid -20 weather...
