getrag overfill mod

I was going to put a elbow with the clear hose on the getrag but I have a hole lot of galvanized pipe and wonder if it is ok to use this ones. I know diesel will react with with this, does synthetic oil do the same?

Thank You.

Not sure about the pipe, I just picked up a cheap "fluid pump" from autozone, and jammed the plastic hose in the top pto cover bolt hole and filled up till it started leaking out of there. was about 6.5 quarts with my transcoolers.

I filled mine by the next to the top pto bolt hole. Not sure how much that is over but it must be close.

Thank You.

Please explain further what you are planning.

One of mine has a 1/2-X-3/4 street-ell in the fill-plug hole pointed straight-up, with a 3" 3/4-nipple, then I welded a "dip-stick" into the center of a 3/4 pipe-cap for the lid.

I added 4-quarts of fluid, set the cap/dip-stick against the top of the nipple(not screwed down) and marked "add a quart" on my dip-stick; then, I added the fifth quart of fluid and marked "FULL".

I cut a groove on the dip-stick at both "add a quart" and "FULL".

On the son's truck, I borrowed an idea that I was shown at the 2007 KY meet.

His has a 1/2 street-ell angled toward the engine-compartment, with a 1/2" hose-barb, to which is clamped a length of clear braided hose which ends up fastened to a home-made bracket on the fire-wall side of the windshield-washer jug.

The top end of this hose also has a barb, threaded into a 1/2 coupling, capped with a 1/2 pipe-plug.

When I can come up with what I want, I intend to re-work a long transmission dip-stick, or maybe one of those cable-dip-sticks from an old cab-over, such that it will slide through the braided hose and read the level.

I actually like this set-up over the one on my truck, as the fluid can easily be funneled in from under the hood, thus making me more likely to change it often.

What is the deal with galvanized?; I have used it in a number of diesel applications with no issues that I have noticed.

I don't think yours will ever get warm enough for any reactions to occur; it'd be more apt to freeze and burst.

Thank You guys. BearKiller, My plan was a combination of what You did on Your trucks but I like the last one You wrote so I'll do it on My truck as well.
I was just thinking if the galvanized pipe would anything with the synthetic oil but there are some of You that have used it with no ill effect so that is what I'll do.

Here's my solution.

Short 1/2: nipple out ou the 'rag to a 1/2' in elbow. 1/2x3'nipple into a 1/2-3/4 coupler to a 3/4 elbow. 3/4x3" nipple witha 3/4 cap and it's angled towards the t-case opening in the floor. Gonna put a dipstick in the cap eventually. I fill it through the cab with a tranny funnel.

BK, it's only -10*this am....Nothin's gonna freeze for atleats another 10*.
