Gasser springs

I know a lot of guys with 4x4s have run gasser springs up front. Here is my question. My 2wd is not my tow rig and I only use it to hot rod around town and to school. My problem is I never have any weight in the bed and the leaf springs are killing my back. (back surgery 3 yrs ago) I know I could put a thousand or so pounds in the bed but I dont want my fuel mileage to go down from the truck weighing more. So I was wondering if I was to locate say a ramcharger or another gasser around my build date. Would I be able to swap the gasser springs into the rear only to get a plusher ride??

Pull out the heavy thick leaf. There are folks on here who have thinned the leaf pack more IIRC.

Depends on the way the gasser was set up. My gasser had the same spring pac in the rear as the diesel.

I'd take one leaf out of your original springs. Then set the truck back down and see if your overload leaf is touching or very nearly touching at the tips. If so, you will likely ride even rougher.just make a shim the thickness that you need to keep the overload tips from touching the main pack. That way, if you do ever need to haul a load you still have good capacity. As you know, the front is not really a ride problem, even empty.

How many leaves are in your rear packs? The basic 2wd 3/4 & 1 ton rear spring is a 6 leaf pack, but 7 and 9 leaf packs were available. If you have a 9 leaf packs back there you can probably stand to lose four of those leaves.
