Fuse Taps

So I am trying to install my gauges and making use of a fuse tap. I have never used a fuse tap before. I told the local parts guy what truck I had and what type of fuses are in it. He ended up selling me a package of "GM Fuse Taps" and was king enough to show me how to use.

I went to try and use the thing and am finding it VERY difficult to fit the tap into the fuse "port" with the fuse. The fit is much too tight and both the fuse and tap will not fit into the female end correctly. Are there different fuse taps for these trucks or am I missing something here? It just don't fit!

Look on the fuse "box" and see if there are any unused ports that are keyed to the ignition. Thats what I used when I installed my autometers . I'm not sure which one I used...could have been for power windows or something of that sort since I don't have the feature on my super dodge. Hope this helps!

I don't remember seeing any unused ports, but I'll check tonight. Good thought thanks.

It is very tight with the fuse tap on the end of the fuse.

Fuse taps will create problems later. Wedging those in spread the terminals in the fusebox and make loose connections in the box which create heat and burn. I added a terminal block fed from the battery but is activated by a relay.

I found a very nice add-a-fuse thingy at Pep Boys. it was in the fuse section. very nice and user friendly, just pull the fuse where you want to put it install the fuse into the piggy back and hook your wire into the add-a-fuse.
I found a link to what they look like, most auto parts stores have them.
