Fuel Tank Capacity
Winr, what did you use a selector valve when you added the aft tank? I dunno how the ford's work, but I'd bet you could adapt it. But I think it's 200 bucks if memory serves me from when I priced one about a year and a half ago.
Nappa sells them. I dont remember the application (I think it was univesial). I may have the part # for the selector but I'm not sure, I'll look.
I used a 3 position switch on the dash for tank and gauge selection.

Well, if I still have at least 5 gallons left when the low fuel light comes on, I should be well able to drive the 30 miles to Copan where the cheap fuel is. I was just going by the guage which showed less than that. I guess my light is more accurate than my guage.
The idea about putting another tank where the spare is sounds good. A lot of car tanks would probably fit there very well. Plenty of room in the bed for the spare. (It's a PITA to get it from out under anyway.)

I had a Mitsubishi Montero once that didn't have a working gas gauge. I carried a can of gas so when I ran out I put in the can and started looking for a station. I've had to re-prime my diesel once when I changed the fuel filter. It wasn't so bad but took some time to get all the air worked out. (10 minutes) I couldn't seem to get that lever on the lift pump to work though. I didn't know about the valve to open to let the air out though so next time it'll be easier.

Smokinfive 9 4X4. JcWhitney sells them for about 50.00. I just replaced mine needlessly. It turned out to be a bad wire. It comes with the toggle switch and wiring connector. You can use generic fuel hoses and clamps to splice into your existing fuel lines. You will need the 6 port valve. Pretty easy to install and comes with instructions. It is the same one NAPA sells...a Pollak.
