Fuel system rebuild

Well, I got the tank and the fuel sending unit out, no dirt in the screen, but the bottom of the screen is torn and the plastic is broken.
If I am running a nice big replaceable filter right outside the tank do I even need to worry about the screen, or should I try to fix it?
I am a little worried about running without one....

Also, because the screen is not clogged, I must have a suction leak or a problem upstream like an LP issue.... I'm replacing the puckup tube (thanks DTS sticky) and all of the plastic line from the tank to the lp with metal.

if your running proper filtration I would not worry about the in tank screen.
