fuel pressure

I just got my fuel pressure guage hooked up and i am only getting 2-4psi after the filter. Is my pump going bad or could my filter be blocking that much pressure?

Are you running the stock lift pump? If you are, that sounds about right, unfortunately.

2-4 at idle is a little low. You either need a new filter or have a tired pump.

I bought the tapped 1/8'' banjo bolt from autometer to plumb my electrical sending unit in after the filter for the meantime the sending unit is mounted directly in the banjo bolt, i am going to get a grease hose soon to take the vibration away. Then i have my 30psi glowshift guage in the dash. All in all it was an easy install.

Running a 30psi gauge with a stock pump might read 2-4 and actually be anything from 2-7 on the low end of the scale. Analog gauges are most accurate around the middle of their sweep, with some degree of error at either end.

So for a VE and OEM lift pump, what capacity gauge would be best? So that the reading would be in the middle? 20PSI?

15 would be appropriate with a stock pump. I never saw a 20.

My brand new 91.5 lift pump (from cummins) will do 9psi when cold, 3psi @ WOT (relitivly stock motor/pump not turned up), 5psi-6psi or so warm & idle.

EDIT: I use a 15psi manual guage...
