fuel pressure
fuel pressure
hey guys its been a while i was just wondering why i cant get my darn truck hotter than 1300ish when completely wooding the pedal on a long grade.i was wondering if it could be a lack of fuel pressure...i have PODs, a pretty hot pump(full fuel turned in all the way, fuel pin, afc turned up, governor spring, etc.)should a 60mm compressor wheel and an 18.5 housing cool that well or am i not getting enough pressure to the ve?i was wondering if there was anyone with similar upgrades as i that had a fuel pressure gauge could tell me what they are getting.my fuel system is enitrely stock(lift pump, fuel lines, etc.)the truck is fairly responsive for having 36 inch tires and having 3.54s but it just seems like i should be able to get it a little hotter.also what would you all think would be a good next step considering ive got a considerable amount of air(maybe as long as fuel pressure aint low)i guess what im asking is did i screw up and buy too mild of injectors or is there another possibility that could be holding it back?NOTE:the truck is not timed either, which im going to need to get done here soon.any suggestions greatly appreciated, austin
thats what i figured...i dont think a 60/18 moves all that much air.at least not enough to be that cool.would you recommend a electric fuel pump or a piston lift pump?also what does your fuelk pressure dive down to on a full throttle romp?
If POD's are as far as you are going, a piston lift pump is adequate. Bigger injectors will require a high pressure setup (Walbro/Aeromotive electric or 2nd gen piston pump) with a bypass regulator after the filter.
With the piston pump, my truck will drop to 5 psi. The electric setup never goes under 15 psi.

If you upgrade the pickup like BC847 did, I don't see any reason you couldn't get similar results to my Walbro install using a 2nd gen piston pump. The pump has the capacity. They are capable of 40-50 psi, I'm only at 25 psi pre-filter.
i think that there are people that are making over 600hp with stock lift pumps(2nd gen), so i dont so why it couldnt keep up with that...but my question hasnt been answered.i want to know if with my current setup whether or not i am in need of a new lift pump.another question is whether or not i need to do something to secure the head because i am pegging my 35 lb gauge?so im guessing 40+ by the way it stays buried.this is just getting to me because i cant get the **** thing hot.whats limiting me if i cant get it hot?are pods that wimpy or is timing going to take it to another level cos i think there should be more power being made....

Have you ran the truck on a dyno? My truck runs cool even with the POD injectors. the 5 speed helps by keeping the rpms up. temps can rise quick when pulling a load and rpms are down. my setup runs about 250 hp and 670 tq (arounf 33psi on dyno) with the 5 speed it can get moving real quick. Temps can come on fast but then slow down and level out around 1200.
