Fuel pin/AFC/diaphragm?

Today I removed the AFC cover because I was curious about the positioning of the tapered fuel pin. The diaphragm was stuck to the cover so it came out together. When I seperated the two, there was a little "BB" rolling around in there. What is its purpose? My punch mark was pointing at 2 o'clock and only had one wear mark on the tapered part. I wondered if it had been messed with before(I guess not), because the fuel screw had the collar removed and the PO said he had the pump turned up. What lube should be put on the pin itself. Looked like mine had some brownish grease on it.

i think the brown "grease" your talking about is just some stuff that builds up over time from the pin sliding up and down. don't ask me what it is. I've never greased or lubes my pin when putting it back in and im pretty sure its not necessary.

I'm not sure about the "BB", never saw anything like that.

The brown grease is factory. Clean it off and put a light coat of good chassis grease on there before you put it back together.

I was surprised to see that BB in there because all the info I read about turning up the pump made no reference to it. It looks like a lead BB from a pellet gun, but not perfectly round.

Man do I feel stupid , but I didn't know any better. I decided to see if the "BB" was magnetic, it was not, so I wanted to see if I could compress it with some needlenoses. It compressed alright, turned to dust, which I guess is what it was, carbon and dust that built up and rolled around in there forming a nice little bb.
