Fuel Filler neck?

I recently put a flatbed on my truck, and I would like to make the filler neck about 6 inches longer than stock. My question is, can I simply put on a longer piece of hose between the metal piece that comes out of the tank, and the metal filler neck?
This seems like a really easy thing to do, just wanted to know if it can be done this way, and will it effect my abillity to fill the tank as fast as it was before?
Thanks a million,
wheelo

My guess is that would be fine as long as you supported it well so the hose wouldn't kink. Make sure you use good hose.

What about a new Radiator hose? I think that they are pretty tuff, they withstand high heat and antifreeze. Also, thats what looks like is on it now.

I would definately NOT use a radiator hose. Use a diesel fuel rated hose. The radiator hose will probably degrade with diesel on it.

I have not pulled mine apart on the Dodge but on other applications I have found a ground wire incorporated with the fill neck. This allows stattic electricity to safely discharge while filling. As for the hose, you will find what you need at a marine supply store like West Marine or Boater's World. Their hoses are tested for fuel and you buy them by the foot.

When we put the flat bed on my work truck the hose needed to be longer so my boss said just get a old radiator hose I tried to tell him but he's the boss. In about the second fuel filter change I started noticing chucks of rubber and alot of it, so I pulled the hose off the filler tube and sure enough it was very deteriorated inside so I went to napa and got 18" of gas/diesel rated hose. The point is don't use regular rubber hose for diesel/gas and its great to tell your boss I told ya so.
