Front gear case

I have heard the 94+ have a different front of engine gear case, compared to the 93- 12V. If this is true does the tin cover that bolts to the front of the gear case need to be changed too, or will the old one still fit the 94+ gear case. I am wanting to change the IP to a P7100 and I was told the gear case must be changed too.

Good question. I don't know, but I do have two different KDP jigs for 1st and 2nd gen trucks. Bolt spacing is the same, but they hit the case at different spots. Maybe the best thing to do is ask the Cummins dealer to look up replacement covers by CPL# using your CPL and a CPL for a 2nd gen (2175 would be a good one). If the replacement cover is the same part #, you don't need it.

Thanks, I will do that.
While I am on the subject, why do I need to change the gear case for the P-pump? Is it only that the P-pump has a different bolt pattern, if so couldn't I just drill and tap for the P pump bolt pattern. Or is there more to it.

The VE pump seals to the case with a gasket, the P-pump slides into a recess in the case. There's more to it than bolt pattern.
