Front D-shaft just aturnin'

Howdy ya'll,

I'm still a bit new to this driveline as i just purchased my 92' W250 a couple weeks ago. I have the old castiron GetRag360 5spd and when I have my 4wheel drive disengauged and should only be in 2 wheel drive the drive shaft is still spinning. Is this normal? my buddy driving behind me notice this the other day and i checked when i got home and sure enough it is. I checked to see if my hubs were locked and they weren't. any ideas?

~Phil

This might sound stupid.

But do you have the hubs unlocked?

Or do you mean with the hubs unlocked that its still catching and spinning?

If so i would guess your hubs are froze up if they are in the FREE position and still doing that.

Crawl under her and give it a spin.

If your t-case is in 2hi, the hubs are un-locked then you should be able to spin it freely by hand.

If you cannot.... Id start looking into why its still engaged.

If you can... it could be easy as enough drag transfering through to get it to spin slowly.

Do what was stated above. Sometimes at higher speeds the front shaft will start to spin a bit, if you cannot spin it by hand then something is still engaged, most likely a hub.

When my T-case is cold the front shaft 'idles' along even though it's not engaged. Like stated above, crawl under and give it a twist, if it spins freely then no worries.

That's a fairly normal situation.
