front coil springs, moog 7226s vs. 5716s

my 89 2wd is sagging.i know this subject has been talked about to death.but, after reading all the posts i can find, i am still confused as to which springs will give me the most lift and the best ride? 50% of the time i am empty and 50% of the time i haul about 4.000 lbs. i never load the front axle to heavy. i am leaning toward the 5716s. your advice will help me make the right purchase.

I know I'm torn on this as well. Some say the 5716S is too harsh a ride, and others say it's fine. I've personally thought of buying used "seasoned" springs and then running a spacer to bring the front back up...but don't really like that idea either.

Not sure what the difference is between the 5716 and 5716S...I know the latter is HD version, but is the ride better or worse?

Just put the 7226S in the 92 D250 , they ride like a cadillac and brought it up a good bit in the front, nowhere near level, still has rake to it but still looks alot better

thrash, same problem.use a lighter duty spring with a spacer or heaver spring with no spacer? i hate to beat up the front suspension with a stiff spring(as you know the front suspension is kind of fragile as it is) just to get the front of the truck a little higher. all ready had a upper ball joint blow out of the control arm.pulled the threads right out! not cool! that said;i still want the front end higher.

What about ride rite bags for the front? I believe they fit inside the coil and replace the shock.

spacers are available

there are the last 11 spacers available in a dealer in the southern us at get this 60 dollars each for the softer springs so went with the harder springs and some heat they work great

The 7226 or the 7226s is what you want on a D250. The 5176s is for D350 1 ton.

What is the spring for the D350?

What to do? Now your saying the 5176S is the spring for the D350. I was about to go by "the sticky" and order the 7226S for my '92 D350 2WD. Is the 5176S possibly for the 4WD? Please help me read the sticky correctly or assist me in verifing which is the correct Moog spring number to use in ordering parts for my D350 2WD. Thanks, packratc

ok,now i will really confuse the spring choice dilemma!
7226:bar diameter .906
install height 13.13
load 1725
7226s:bar diameter .906
install height 13.12
load 2224
5716s:bar diameter .937
install height 12.75
load 3251

by the way the 5716s is a chevy number, but rock auto says it is also for a 1989-1993 d350.i'm thinking crossy's son is right.go with the 7226s springs.what do you think?

Check these guys out. From what I was told they make springs for several aftermarket folks. I've been talking to them about springs for the front of my truck. We've been talking over the weight of the truck, ride height I want and so on. I believe we've got it narrowed down to 2" increase in ride height and 1500lbs of capacity. Going to cost me about $500 for the springs but I'm betting if you email them or call that they will get exactly what you need, no guessing from a retail website and then saying, "darn, I don't like these" when you get them installed.

Spring Choice

Thanks CSEBY for staightening me out on the numbers. The 5706s springs sound too stout for the frontend of my truck. I don't picture putting 1500 additional pounds on the front of my truck. The rear, maybe. But I have air bags to take care of that. I also don't think my truck would take kindly to a GM part number mixed in with all those Mopar parts. Dodgeguy is willing to add $500 worth of springs to his rig, but I'm not going to spend that kinda money on these. If the springs I put in there are too stiff I guess I can put some heat to them or have Nashville Spring operate on them to soften them up. This $5500 truck is going to be an $8000 truck pretty soon. The truck I bought it to replace cost me $150 about 16 years ago and I still drive it. These things are a disease and if another came along at a great price, I'm afraid I'd buy it. Packratc

Yeah, the springs are kinda pricey. He had originally priced me something for $350. My truck weights nearly 11,000lbs so I need anything I can get. Bags in the rear but when aired up they put to much on the front. I just spent $5000.00 on this truck this last weekend between tires and differential so $500 is a drop in the bucket. This truck has made me....well, a great deal of money this year so dropping a little money so she can make me as much money next year with no issues is a no brainer.

I was just up at Nashville spring a few days ago getting some new u-bolts for my rig. Pretty reasonable prices, been dealing with them for many years.

Wonder if I should go with the 5716's in my D350 Crewcab. It does have a few extra feet...and a few extra pounds.
