I wouldn't panic as many many vehicles die of old age, never having anything but a FRAM filter on them.

There are still people that think that FRAM is as good as it gets; I know in my little lost-from-time area, even the best mechanics think anything less than FRAM is second-class.

Now I know better and use FleetGuard 3894(I think) for the oil and Fleetguard FS1221 for the fuel.

There have been instances of the filter media collapsing or breaking up and clogging small passages in the engine such as the piston cooling nozzles. They are a cheap filter, and you get what you pay for.

There is on the net, a study done by a scentific group, that I have read, that puts the Fram filters at the top of the list for the worst.

Wix, Pure One, and Mobil1 are among the best rated multi-pass SAE rated filters. I am not loyal to any one but I do stick with one of the three. I know most industrial applications use FleetGaurd and those engines go on for thousands of hours of heavy use, so they must be good too.

They are expencive and dont filter very well. There SAE single pass was in the 80's, where M1 single pass is i believe 96%

Don't panic, but use a better quality filter next time.

Fleetguard, Wix, Hastings/Baldwin, Donaldson are all top shelf stuff.

Check your local truck parts store when filter shopping. I can get a Donaldson for $5.50 when Pep Boys wants $13 for a Purolator. Now, Purolators are OK filters but they aren't worth more than double a Donaldson.

May never have a problem, but when you see a Fram cut open, it is just glued together cheaply and others have metal clamping the media in place.

I have heard in hot race engines the glue may melt and all heck happens. It can also fail internally more easily.

Like a KDP, you may never see a killer under your hood, but turn on the net and yikes!

Have you ever opened one up?
Cut one open and look at it.
I have seen several that were blown apart and NOTHING was getting filtered.
CUMMINS says no warantee if a fram is on it. They know a bunch more than we do.
