Flex A Lite Fan Blade?

I keep hearing about our 1st gen fan blades having inferior pitch/efficiency compared to the 2nd gen trucks. I know that a 2nd gen fan won't work because the diameter is too large.

I am planning to pin the fan clutch here pretty soon, and I am wondering if adding a performance fan (flex a lite or similar) would help a lot more also. Seems like it would, as the pitch is improved for better airflow at idle/low rpms and the blade flattens out at upper RPMs to lessen high-rpm drag that comes with pinning the fan clutch for full time operation. Am I off base here? Seems logical to me.

, does anyone have the fan information for these trucks to order a new fan (thread pattern, bolt size, diameter, etc)? Thanks.

Just make sure if you find one that fits it rotates in the right direction. My old man got one for his police cruiser because at accidents or other extended idle times the car would get warm. All was good but when he was getting after it it was so loud it was hard to hear the 2 way radio. Come to find out they sold us a standard rotation blade for a serpenteen belt car. ( reverse rotation ). Just another thing to think about.

I have a 2nd gen fan on mine and love it. I had to change due to my fluidamper. Mine came off a 96 (a California "clunker" believe it or not!) and the clutch engages at EXACTLY 200 degrees coolant temp. NO MODIFICATIONS were nesc. Mine bolted right on.

How do you have a 2nd gen fan when the diameter of the 2nd gen fan is much larger than a 1st gen fan shroud?
