First Stumble

Had my first stumble Wed. morning after starting up. The air temp was 23 degrees F. and it hadn't been started in a couple days. At first I just chaulked it up to being cold. I sat after starting only long enough to see good oil pressure. When I but it in gear it didn't want to move over the frozen tundra. I gave it a little fuel and then a little more and thats when it gave me the wet dog shake. Did it twice. Then after I got up the road a hundred feet or more the hesitation did not return. I discribed the symptom to a friend that owns a second gen and he suggested that the fuel heater may not be working. How do I test a fuel heater? When is it supposed to come on and go off? I have seen it itbut never gave it a thought until Wed.

mine did pretty much the same thing tonight leaving work, except I did`nt wait for the grids to cycle, I just cranked her up. Let out a good poof of blue/white smoke too. One of these days I will get my new "junk" battery swapped for a new one and new starter contacts, then i can chance cycling the grids again.

You put out the fire with too much fuel in a cold motor. Check the KSB system, and be gentle when it's cold.

Dave, I was very gentle. When it is cold I treat it like there is a raw egg between me and the accelerator. I know where the KSB is and I think I know what it does. How would I check it past looking at the wire? The service manual doesn't cover that or the heater well. Seems it never breaks .

After you start the cold engine pull the wire off the KSB solenoid and the engine sound should change. If there is no change in sound then the KSB solenoid is not working. The problem then is either the KSB or the air temperature switch.

THanks, I will try that when I get home.
