I think the thumping is pretty normal for the GetRag. Mine does it too. Somebody told me it is the cluster gear rattling in 4th gear.

I finnaly got a chance to take the cover off the rear axle. Missing three teeth on the ring gear. What gears do I have? Numbers are
9 03 97 DANA D 39287 P4L49 46 13 3 89
Speeking greek?

I don't think the numbers on the ring gear say, unless there is some code book or something. So you will probably have to do it the old fashion way, count number teeth on ring gear, count number on pinion and divide.
Unless the tag is still on one of the inpection cover bolts then it'll say on that.

I really couldn't tell you. Was there a sheetmetal tag on the diff or did somebody already lose it for you? If all else fails you can count teeth and do the math. Your only options are 3.54's or 4:10's. Both were available with the 5 speed. Most trucks have 3.54's, but most of the trucks with 4:10's are 4x4 duallys.
Total bummer about the rear-end. I knew that description sounded familiar
Every Dana axle has a Bill of Materials (BOM) number stamped into the passenger side axle tube. It should be close to the center section, but it could be anywhere. I think it's 9 digits. You may have to get crafty with the wire brush to make the numbers/letters show up, but it'll be worth it because from that BOM, any reputable gear shop will know more about your truck than you do...and you'll get all the proper shim assortments, bearings, races, seals etc. It's a beautiful number to have when shopping for parts for that axle. Sorry again about your misfortune

I'd say! You could part it out on E-Bay for 4 times that of you get tired of it.
edit: I got genuine Dana/Spicer r@p, american bearings/seals etc. for mine and it was only about 400 bucks..plus lots of labor and swearing...man that Detroit was heavy
Oh, and no case spreader, so I had to smack the thing in and out with a 5 lb plastic mallet.....6 times! Ok, I'm done whining
I was banned per my own request for speaking the name Pelosi

Expect/inspect more than just the gear. It sounds like the guide pin to the spider's tried riding up and hit the gear. It probably hit the pinion, whch then damaged the ring. The bore in the carrier it rides in is probably egg-shaped. When mine did it, it bent the guide pin after it was sticking up, so it couldn't get pushed back in to free up the axle.

Much cheaper and easier than an R&P R&R.
