I dont see how it's possible not to love the first gen trucks. So much there, especially (for me) 91-93 models.

I love my 93....could buy newer one any day but don't. Yea, the new ones have great looks but my 93 has the heart of a warrior...He'll be staying with me a long time.....Besides that, it drove all the way to Arizona from Texas to rescue a broken down 2nd gen that was trying to pull a heavy load. I hooked up with mine and pulled it home. Never missed a lick....It went above and beyond it's duty with pride.

I have owned several Cummins powered Dodge trucks, a 97 3500 and a 99 3500 most recently...and I am sure that I will own many more as time goes on...newer, nicer rigs. But, in light of this, i realized the day I bought this truck that I would always have a 1st Gen dodge, hopefully the one I have now. I may sell every Dodge I buy in the future, but I know I will always have a 1st gen dodge. These trucks are not luxurious tow rigs, they are veritable tractors, the motor is not a refined engine, but a bear of an industrial motor, a bulletproof powerplant built and wrapped in an incongruous platform with only one idea in mind. The 1st Gen truck is stunning yet simple, aggressive in a nonconformist way. This truck is the definition of diesel power.

just my opinion....redwake

How much do I love my truck? I washed it while it was snowing today. It snowed for the first time this season on Thursday, and apparently unless PennDOT uses ALL their salt they don't get to buy any next winter. I had to take a little road trip this morning and the roads were wet, so the truck got covered with salt. It's rust free and I want to keep it that way, so there I was washing the truck while it was snowing. Rinsed the underside 3 times. If the neighbors didn't think I was nuts before, they do now.

does all that salt eat your concrete driveway up while your rig drips off?

The 1st gen trucks were the last of the power wagon series (which is what the "W" stands for in W250 or W350). The first gen series has thicker sheetmetal and the driveline is almost completely cast iron. They should have boxed the fame from the factory though...
It takes a kidney belt to crank over the rough stuff, but they rarely break, and having a mechanical engine management system can be a plus because you can always limp home if the ECM bombs. And there is the blessings and curses of the VE pump, blessing being the wonderful mechanical advance, downside being the limited fuel pellet volume and pressure compared to the "P" pump.

No matter what truck I buy, I keep coming back to the first generation trucks. Although it is rough riding..... it still looks, acts, and drives like a truck should. I also believe that it was built better than most of the ones following it, less the brakes...

Ever one seems to for get that,There never was a real diesel pick up made u till 1989. All the other guys that bash the 1st gens are for getting one thing. If it had not been for the 1st the 2nd and 3rd would have never been. Yea the 2nd gens may look better to some and ride better. But I hate working on them I would like to kick the crap out the guy who put the back two valve covers in what I call the bat cave. At least I can get to all the head bolts an Valve covers on a 1st gen. Hay I like the 2nd and 3rd's too, But I would'nt give a 1st gen with 500,000 mile's on it for a 98 12 valves that just came off the lot brand new. Ever one is too his own, 1st gens for ever Cummins Started here!
