Inferno...I can appreciate what you are trying to do, and hats off to you.

But I'm like the others...I don't do social media. The automotive related forums I frequent, are as close as I'll get.

All the previous comments about facebook, and social media I agree with 100%. Makes me feel just a little less alone....

WOW!
I thought I was the only grumpy old school guy that can barely use his old flip phone, which I use for road trips only.
I don't Text, IM, Facebook, Twitter and haven't had TV service in 8 years.
I have an old answering machine on my land line, I use, no Voice Mail…here.
Heck, I can't even figure out how to load pictures of my Dodges on to this forum for you guys to check out!
I like hanging in the shop listening to old Metal, and working on old [Dodge] Iron.

I like you guys better all the time.

I resemble that remark I haven't had a TV for 13 years
I am a little farther back than metal, though I listen to quite a bit of it. mostly cutting ,grinding and welding. my old Iron include late 40s to mid fiftys GMC and Chevrolet.

Inferno,
The differences between social media and bulletin boards (here) are many.

Social media is organized on a time line only. Further organization is tedious and usually not done.

BBS is organized any way the designer wants, thus the different forums.

Social media, if open to the public, is also open to public abuse. Controlling it is tedious, and often frustrating as there aren't many tools available to do it.

BBS, there are tools to block users, IP addresses, IP ranges, word associations, etc. The moderators job is much easier with the tools.

There are many other differences as well.

I have found no other place on the internet that shares my interest in Dodge Cummins as well as this one, nor one that has the knowledge among it's members that this one has. I willingly invest a lot of time helping, and also get a lot of help here.

I don't waste any time at all on facebook.

I frequent a couple 1st gen Cummins Facebook sites, mainly for parts. In the last 6-8 months I've found a NOS grille W/inserts, NOS LE front bumper, a lot of NOS rubber and seals, 4-factory tachs, and a bunch of other misc. parts and pieces. If I'm looking for mechanical advice, I don't look there. You do have to wade through some nonsense, but I just over look it.

I have noticed the classifieds here leave a little to be desired. We must be a bunch of hoarders.

I'm new here, but belong to another Cummins forum and can honestly say I've never bought a single part off that site. Oddball parts just don't seem to show up that often (must be the hoarding you speak of), and the rest just seem to be overpriced. However, the cost of finding parts on some sites is reading about "how to make my truck roll coal", which to me is ridiculous.

I'm not quite as bad as you....

I text, and can post pics on the board. But I haven't had any cable service for our TV for about 4-5 years. I prefer to be researching, and learning how to do new things on our old iron, then wasting all that time on TV series that do nothing but rot your brain.

1972-1993 Dodge Trucks is a good resource for body and drivetrain related stuff. Many cool pics of our body style of trucks without the constant for sale ads and has a huge base of owners.

Me either. I gave up TV AND Malwart in 1996 and haven't looked back. I'm pleasantly surprised that so many others of you have too!

I still have a flip phone and will text on a small scale but never twitted or even seen facebook. I used to think it was mostly age related but I have coworkers now that could be my children that have flip phones and no facebook.

But it seems to be moving in that direction. At work we are encouraged to have a FB page and blog and all that stuff. Seems to be the way to get the word out but also seems to consume a lot of time?

Whats the bulletin board thing j martin?

I do not know what kind of work you do, but a company that encouraged employees to have a Facebook Page to me would be looking for a way to spy on your personal life.

People either unknowingly or knowingly post enough damaging information about their own life for all to see.

Have you ever checked out this forum, it is the only other technical forum I could get lost in.

It is strictly a professional FB and totally separate from your personal one if you have one. My job is information sharing/education.
