first gen dead in the water!

An easy way i found to test LP pressure is at idle, open the water drain on the fuel filter while running and if it spits fuel out, pressure is ok. If it sucks air and kills the motor, then the LP is dead. Like mentioned above, crack an injector line and see if any fuel comes out.

Well, if you crack an injector line and you get no fuel there you've pretty much narrowed it down to the VE pump. Hopefully it's just something stuck in there stopping fuel but since you saw metal you probably better seek professional help. I hope it never happens to me.
I changed my fuel filter once before I knew the proceedure for priming and it would crank like crazy w/o starting. I had to let the air out of the system. There is a screw I think on top of the filter for doing this and a hand lever to work the lift pump while you're priming it.

I have been working 3 days on my 91 changed filter ,LP and pulled shut off which was working great up to than now it keeps running for a few seconds when I shut down, than put a tank full of diesiel on top of cab ran hose to lift pump bleed sytem for 100th time it started ran like new. Line looks great so this morning I 'am droping tank. I have owened this truck since new and it never gave me any trouble and I sold it two days ago drove it home for last time the guy was supose to pick it up that night and it stoped on me backing in driveway. I took bleed screw out above filter and was getting air, good luck on yours I really feel for you at the moment.

Well, I pulled the pump top off just to see if I may have messed up something with my 3200 spring...no such luck...all was well in there. I think miles/hours, previous owner treatment, and me bombing the heck out of it was just too much on the old pump There is no dirt/debris that I can see and my 3200 spring install went very cleanly, so I guess it was just my turn. I should have stated long ago that this is about how my luck is with vehicles, so, sadly, this is no real surprise. No use getting mad, just get 'er fixed and get 'er done! Got a VE on the way from a fellow member that happened to have a spare, so I should be blowin' soot in no time!

And your having problems already? I have a little over 140,000 on mine, guess I should be ok for a little while longer If I keep using additives. These cummins are something else, I guess some day everything will wear out so that all that will be left is an engine sitting alongside the road...still running
