Filter change, gone bad!!!

I was changing my oil, filter and fuel filter today. (first time on this truck) Drained oil, put new filter on, dumped fresh oil back in. Went great. Pulled fuel filter off, replaced with new, went great. Went to bleeed air out of the system, started pumping the lift pump lever after 3 pumps snap..lever broke off. Went to parts store got new pump slapped it in. Bled system all was good. Started the truck, looked underneth for leakes about 2 quarts of oil on the floor. Looked at the filter on the truck, looked at old filter on the ground....huumm, no seal. Yep seal stuck onto the truck and I double sealed it...Didn't work so good. Truck runs great now. after 5 hours to change 2 stupid filters. Never had a seal stick in 10 years of changing oil in vehicles. Wasn't my day.

Today must be the day for that. I'm not too proud to admit that I forgot to check for the seal today and did the same thing. I have had them stick before on other vehicles and I know better than to not check.

After I cleaned up that mess, I proceeded to change the ATF on my brother's minivan. I crawled out from under the van to look up the torque spec for the pan bolts and happened to notice the magnet still stuck to the drain pan. Thank God I hadn't poured that $7.50/qt ATF+4 in there yet.

Fleetguard. First one I used, I usually use Donaldson but I figured while I was paying shipping for high flow banjos I'd get a couple filters. I think I'll stick with the Donaldsons.

Really just a stupid mistake on my part. Like I said, I know better.

Years ago, I drove the wife's car to the shop and changed the oil, then drove it back home, about four miles.

There was about an inch of new snow.

Wife like, she complained about where I parked her car; so, I went out and moved it.

When I walked back across where I had first parked, there, in the snow, was a puddle of oil.

I pulled the dipstick and it was about a quart low.

I returned to the shop, removed the new filter, and there was the old gasket, still stuck to the engine.

This is a lesson I have never forgot.

It also pays to have a contrary woman; if she had been content to leave the car where I first parked it, she would have driven it the next day, until it was dry of oil.
