Exhaust!!

Well sort of, it was straight piped and since it will be a while before i can put the 4 inch on it, I put a 3 inch side exit right before the rear tire. Painted it black. Looks cool and sounds even cooler. Next on the list is a tranny rebuild then gauges. I want more power!!
Thanks to everyone on all the tips so far with mods!!! This forum is great!

Side note:

I have a spare VE pump that I am going to reseal so that between my buddys and my truck we have a spare. But, on both of the pumps, mine and this spare that was the original off of my truck... the afc wheel has been maxed out on both. The truck has never been modded before except by me and it was originally owned by my buddys grandfather. Do you think its maxed because of altitude here in Co??

you'll love it even more with a straight 4"! i want/need to get someone to shoot a video of me accelerating away and driving by sometime. i've got videos of the difference between 3" and 4" while driving. i had a whistle whenever i'd let off the throttle either to shift or when decelerating.

Good plans

Put a good converter in it and beef up the trans a little and it'll take any abuse.

All the way down or all the way up? Down = somebody stupid wanted lotsa smoke. Up = somebody trying to cure a smoke problem due to altitude.

lol yes both pumps maxed out all the way down... And I have to be honest... with now the fuel pin turned and the exhaust the truck does not smoke a whole lot... I need to back the smoke screw out a bit to tone it down at launch but before I did any mods the truck didnt really smoke accept at full throttle and that was only a haze for a second or two... I am as confused as you are... And I dont think I have a boost leak because turbo spools ok truck runs really good and as soon as the turbo kicks smoke is gone...

You need to get rid of that 21cm lagmaster exhaust housing. Put a 16cm non w/g on it and that will cure your smoke problem.

Thats why your puffing smoke before spool up...its taking so long to spool up!

I'd double check the back of your housing though, Look on the back of the exhaust housing where it meets the downpipe, towards the engine it should have a "21" or "18". That will tell you what exhaust housing its got.

Just curious Dave, I have about worn the threads out on my AFC cover chasing a smoke problem (there is too much) More than a haze, less than a cloud. Hazes at idle as well. I would like ZERO, however, I know that is probably not possible. Starwheel maxed out at bottom, it smokes WAY too much for me on pull up, but driveability is excellent! Starwheel all the way up, still smokes way too much for my taste and the driveability is not so good, very soft on the bottom end, but after boost builds, it runs the same, just takes longer to build the boost. I went a quarter turn at a time too. I have milled the inside of the AFC cover (milled the ring, and machined the center so the nut could ride up into the cover higher) so my Power pin will ride up as far as possible without the fuel pin riding UNDER the power pin. I have adjusted the fuel screw out (less fuel) until it wount run other than at Idle (pull it in gear and it bucks like a mule) I had the same smoke with the Stock Power pin as well. Timing is 1/8" advanced, however I have not actually measured it, and do not know the history of this engine prior to my ownership. I live in California, and in the San Francisco Bay area. I am just waiting for my "Complaint letter" from the DMV.
I know "too much" smoke is relative, the Kid at the Market thinks my truck is awesome, and he loves the smoke. I am a little older, and dont want, or need it.

Yeah i'm running into the same thing with my auto truck tune out the smoke on the bottom, then it runs like a dog, turn it up so it'll run and then it smokes. Also anything above 15psi manifold pressure it hazes/smokes pretty good.

Its very hard to clear smoke up when you have any kinda of fuel pin.

our old 91 didn't smoke a bit after AFC tweaks and turn on the power screw, it had a BHAF and a straight pipe but as soon as we ground the pin it smoked like a freight train.

I'd recoomend like a M1 fuel pin from alwaysworking if you wanna get rid of bottom end smoke.
