engine running horrible after pump reseal.

Hey guys, I pulled my pump off to re seal the mounting gasket and the side cover o ring on the engine side of the pump, I timed the engine before removal, resealed everything, now truck has NM power and smokes white, and when in gear,(engine under load) it sounds awful like knocking type noise, but on idle sounds mint, even when you rev it up it sounds mint! I tried rotating the pump (towards the engine way) cause I thought it sounded like it was getting fuel to early. But that didn't do anything! Also when I start it it seems like its firing way early! Like fires half way through the crank. Plz help guys, on source of vehicle right now lol... Truck is a 1993 inter cooled cummins with automatic trans.

Towards the head is ADVANCING it.
You probably made the problem worse.

I'd also double check that you got the gear keyway lined back up right and didn't slide the key off the backside.

Mark.

Could be getting air in somewhere. Check all your fittings to make sure they are sealed tight.

But Mark is right...that Keyway can be a real PITA!!

Thanks guys, how do I make sure the keyway is in the gear properly now? Do I have to pull the front cover and take a look? I will try moving the pump in the opposite direction and hopefully that fixed er up!!!!!

Did you spin the engine over at all when the pump was out?
