Cummins is the best. If you need to rebuild one of these it's usually cheaper to swap in another one though.

ok. Do you know what the kit would cost? my local machine shop said a grand for the kit and a grand for the labor to machine and put it back together. Im just trying to figure the total cost that would be involved.

Just curious, but why do you need to rebuild it?

The cummins dealer told me they dont make a "kit" for the B you have to get it all seprate. everything and the machine work was just over 1k for all of it. that was new pistons, rings, wrist pins, bearings, oil pump and every gasket, oring, and all.

they run a lot better with properly adjusted valves and its free if you do it yourself.
i'd try the valves before i bought all new parts.
maybe your fuel filter is getting plugged or your lift pump is dead, did it get colder outside all of a sudden making it harder to start?
things i would wounder berfor the worst case senario

Not too long ago there was a thread where the truck had lost power, turns out the lift pump was actually broken and was pumping hardly any fuel, may be something else to check.

If it starts easy, has good oil pressure, and isn't making funny noises I doubt it needs a rebuild.

Low power can be caused by a lot of things and most of them involve the fuel system.

If it's not leaving puddles under the crankcase vent your blowby is normal. They do that.
