Engine cooling Fan question

I just read where the '06 (and up maybe) have an ECM controled fan clutch.

Is this true?

I wonder if it could be adapted to our mess with a coolant based thermostat . . . ... Hmmmmm

If you're gonna go that route, why not get a Horton Electo-magnetic setup?

The Dodge/Cummins blade isn't offered anymore, the Horton set-up is a bit expensive compared to a used '06 set-up (maybe ?).

In a perfect world, I'd have a clutch that functions (variable) as our OEM clutch does when the electric clutch portion engages. (just day-dreaming).

The 3rd gens have a much bigger fan and the accessory drive system is a good bit different than ours.

I have a single 12" puller fan. it wasnt a high dollar fan.(dont remember brand) It could be a puller or a pusher fan. It keeps my motor running cool no matter how hot the summer egts or how heavy of a trailer or extended idling. I got the electric thermostat for it form advance auto. it is a universal thermostat with all needed relay and wires. it only took about a half hour to install. Ill try to look tommorrow about what fan brand it is.

I must say, these things do have an awesome cooling system on them! I idled mine through the State parade last summer for a couple hours with the A/C on and the temps into the upper 90's. There's a guy who races at the local dirt oval who has a early 70's Dodge 3/4 2wd with a '93 Cummins transplant. It's a 5spd and he has no cooling issues pulling his race car with this cooling setup.
He's got the fan on a switch and doesn't even need it.

The 2nt gen fan and hubs not discontinued, and it will fit and work in a intercooled First gen.......Non intercooled won't fit unless you remove your fan shroud.

If you wanted to try the 06 set up, i'm sure i could come up with some kind of scamatic........but as dave as allready said, these fan are HUGE!!!! They are atleast 2X the diamiter of yours

I meant the Dodge/Cummins blade that Horton made for their clutch is no longer available.

The electrical side is no problem for me.

I've done a little research on the Horton stuff. I like the thought of being able to shut down the fan when not needed but I also like the variable engagement of the OEM clutch.

Seems the Bluebird buses may have run them (on the Cummins).

I have no clue what I want there.

You might be able to put you fan on the 06 hub but your fan is so light in comparison, I'm afraid that would drive the fan at 40 50% with out adding power to heat up and ingage the fan Clutch

You thing about removing your fan to free up some HP for the drags?????

I have never heard of the Horton stuff...................
