emissions

Hello all,
I have the 96 dodge diesel, but have a different question concerning a gasoline truck or car. Rather then joining a different forum, I felt I would ask it here in my favorite forum. Concerning in my State the emissions test. I never went over 5 thousand miles a year in my car so I was exempt from the test. Of course I would still get charged a bit for it. My question is, if you are in a State that requires it. How much more dose your mechanic charge you on top of the regular body inspection?? Mine, beside the body inspection and the exempt sticker was 60 dollars. Thanks hope you all don't mind.

My 89 Diesel is exempt from emissions testing here in CA. It's considered an antique.

I have never owned a rig new enough or light duty enough to need to go through anything but the body, lights, safety and suspension inspection around here.

It cost $50 for my wife's Cherokee for a smog check. It didn't pass. They charge $30 for each recheck. The Cherokee it currently not registered as we are moving to a state that doesn't do smog BS

Someday I'll also escape the People's Republic of California.

Zero safety checks in California. You could drive with busted windshield wipers and no hazards for years on end if you wanted too.

Emissions for diesels in Cali is only for 1998 and newer so you'd be good to go there also.

Sorry I may of miss led some of you with my thread. It is about a gasoline engine car or truck. Here, my diesel is all ways exempt. I wanted to know what a mechanic charges any one who has to have The emissions test to his or her car along with the body inspection. The main point is, if you never drove over 5000 thousand miles in a year. I don't drive over 5000 miles and I still pay at least over 20 dollars for the emissions (and no machine hook up or tail pipe inspection). That price is added to the body inspection, that comes to some times at over 60 dollars. I live in Pennsylvania.
