Electrical Problems

Well back from school and the Dodge is starting to have some electrical problems. After I start the truck in the mornings and begin to drive down the road my windshield wipers will come on at random and then shut off. It only happens just after start up and not every time. Got any ideas.

If you have intermittent wipers I'd suspect the control module under the dash on the column. It gets power independent of the wiper switch so if something was wrong inside it could start running the wipers by itself. Can you get them to stop by playing with the switch? Do they work normally when you need them?

Yes I do have intermittent wipers and they work fine when I need them. They come on for just one cycle when this little problem occurs so there is no need to play with the switch. I'll find the controll module and check it out.

Thanks

If it's just one cycle it could also be an issue with the park switch on the wiper motor. Probably more likely than the module.

While your messing around in there and before you start spending money, clean everything off. Clean the terminals on your headlight switch, fuse box, and everything else you can find. With the cowls/door jams as prone to leaking as they are, and the mixture of metals in the connectors, corrosion is the first thing to rule out. I even popped the cap off the steering wheel to clean the connectors so I could have a horn again.
