Question Egt question

What is your alls egt's at doing 30mph? 60mph? I just put a new autometer pyrometer in and my egt's at 30 are at 500, and at 60 at 750, is this right? When i let off the throttle it only goes down to 400, and when i shut the truck off it goes down to 200 quickly. What are your thoughts on this???

Thanks, Kyle

Kyle,

Assuming it's just you and the truck on an easy Sunday drive, those numbers are about right.

Where did you put the probe? Your numbers are really low if it is in the manifold but about right if it is after the turbo. Mine is just after the turbo and I always add about 200 degrees to the higher numbers, for safety. I pull my foot out of it if it gets to 1100 degrees.

its cause its an autometer, tell them how your gauge jumps from 0 to 1600 when you hit the brakes, and it idles @ 400, the probe was put in the manifold really close to the housing!! someone help the poor kid!

I'm not sure about 30mph because I don't remember looking at the egt guage but on my way back from NY state I was running at about 65 to 75mph and my egt's were around 750 to 800 depending on the grade.

Sounds about like mine. I've never seen over 1,000* even pulling hard. Must need more fuel

Were's your pyro installed. I have the same truck with stock injectors and can hit over 1300f pre turbo at 25-28psi. Let me know what ican do to bring it down.

Your numbers sound a little high but not bad, if you were accelerating at the 30mph mark. Going down the street at 35mph, I run 350-400, in the manifold. 65mph on the flat is about 575-600.

If you have an auto, your numbers will be a little higher in town. Mom's are, anyway. Hers runs cooler at hwy speeds, though.

What autometer guage is it? If it's electronic, which it probably is, they have to be hooked up right. The power for the guage has to stay "hot" while cranking the engine. Otherwise it messes up the calibration. Mine was showing 900-1200 all the time and you has to let it idle for awhile to get down to 400. Hooked it to the reverse light fuse on works much better.
Just a thought.

Pyros seem to be way sensitive instruments electrically speaking, not to mention temperature-wise. Mine acted crazy every once in awhile until I ran a ground from the VR to the exhaust manifold. Been very stable ever since.
