EDM's: from who and why?

I know we don't have too many 1st gens running around with EDM injectors. So just wondering who all is making or should I say, CAN make a HOT set for us? I've seen DonM, ?Lenny?- Dynomite Diesel maybe??, EEP maybe? I'm sure Scheid or any reputable fuel injection shop could build a set for you if you brought them a set of stock cores. I have a set of 9mm tipped from my 89, and a set of 7mm tipped from a IC'd 93. I'd rather have the 9's built so I don't have to use adaptor bushings which are a thick washer and you have no choice in washer thickness. But if I went with the 9mm tipped sticks, I could play with washer size.

Probly should ask KTA eh? Since he has a HOT set of injectors. Anyone have any thoughts or experience?

If you want to use 7mm tips, what about using 2nd gen 12 valve EDM's and swapping the guts into your injector bodies.

An important question to ask any EDM seller is this.
Are all the holes the same size?
I had a set that would smoke real heavy until you did a full throttle run, then they were very nice and clean, Then the next day they would smoke heavy again. My opinion is that with diferent size holes some would coke over and not clean until you gave it full throttle and RPM.
This isn't any good.

Well I guess I'm one of the few that actually have experience running EDM's in a 1st gen so I'll put in my 2 cents. Any shop that makes EDM's can make you a HOT set...just get ready to pay for them as custom injectors are not cheap. If you knew how much you wanted them to flow then I'd get ahold of columbus diesel and see what they could do about building you a set, but you really cant call them and just say you want a big set of injectors. You need to have an idea on the specifics. Also, I would use the 9mm injector bodies. I have run 2 sets of hot edm's in my truck so far and I can say one thing about the two...they were both better than my POD's. Dont get me wrong, the lucas injectors are good sticks for guys that think 350hp is a huge number, but dont flow the fuel like a custom EDM.

Not sure. I called and talked to them, but we didnt get as far as to discuss the price. You're looking at 800 dollars (on average) from most places for a set of custom injectors.

I run edm's in mine, theres no comparison to my sis's truck i make more power and unless im ******* it smoke is minimal. The main advatage is FAR better fuel atomization than any pod could ever hope for which translates to better burning which means more power less smoke. I also get a lot better fuel milage under loads, i get 20.7 empty and last i checked i got 17 pulling a 24 ft gooseneck with a 6 k lb tractor. The empty milage stayed the same but the loaded milage was a lot better up from 11.

Thanks guys for the info. I'm not too worried about the money, just don't want to have to do it twice, and I want to be happy with them.

If moeny is not really an option, and you want quality, go EDM...don't even look at anything else.

I know of a few TDR members with stock flow F1 EDM's and like them, but I want MORE!! Cody, so what are the magic words we need to tell the machinist? What kind of hole (#'s), and flow numbers??? I spoke with Scheid's today and they said they can build me whatever I want. Their machinist was off so I couldn't speak with him.

The magic numbers are whatever you want them to be. Very doubtful you'll get that information from companies that sell injectors because it would be easy to copy them. I personally have no idea about flow numbers or hole #'s for injectors...thats a question for Brian.
