Well I went to 8 dyno events last year and I was on the dyno a total of 11 different times. I have spun the rollers roughly 40+ times in 2005. Some were Mustangs, some were Dynojets, one off brand and one Superflow. Not one time have I ever ran in 5th gear. I allways use 4th gear which is 1:1 ratio.

Let us know how you do.

The dyno run may be in doubt. I have develped a rattle at 70. Thought it could be driveline, but just to make sure I put her in 4th and dropped the RPM's down to the same level (by ear) and detected it again, maybe at 55 or so. Seems to be RPM related.

Everything is sorted out, and I got the somewhat green light from the misses, so I will be at the dyno in the morning when there is still a bite in the air! My wife says I am going to see how big my &^#@* are, but that aint it. I keep telling her it's benchmarking!

if you want to squeeze even more power out, I'd say put on tires that are as close to slicks as possible, i.e. stay away from mudders on the dyno lol

Well, I waited 4 1/2 hours to get the truck on the dyno (and it barely fit on), then we couldn't get a tach signal from the crank sensor (even though it is working), and stupid me didn't know where the tach wire is in the CAB. So dyno guy decides to at least get a power reading, wraps it to 5th and punches it, and the controller fried his hand! The dyno quit responding, and he had to pull out the fuses to get it back up. In the mean time they tried to get the truck off the dyno but the hitch was in the way and the key wouldn't work so I lost a hitchlock.

They want me to bring it back when I figure out where I can get a tach signal, but not today....

Anyone know where the tach wire under the dash is?

They need to have an optical pickup to do diesels. It uses a strip of reflective tape on the crank damper.

Sounds like these guys do not know how to dyno diesels.

They don't. It's too bad because by the sound of the pull he made on the truck I was fixin' to humiliate a host of beemers, rice burners, and best of all, a scumaro. I'm going to mention the optical pickup, but have a tach wire ready anyway! Would have been nice to have the numbers for my birthday today! (45)

Thanks Dave!

Happy BDay Dave.

From what I remember, there might be a set of wires (4 I think) that comes down next to the steering column. They go to a small pin connector. That is where I tapped my tach into (the stock connector). Not sure if all trucks had this though. Mine was a 92.

Will tire size affect dyno results?
