Dyno Tips

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't sure were to put this.

Anywho, im headed off to the rollers today to see what im laying down. I have no prior experience with dynos at all, so i'm here asking all of you for a couple of pointers.

What's the best way to go about doing this, do I get the truck up to a certin speed then just step on it or what? I'll be running the BDTD by it's self for the first run(not sure what setting though, maybe "performance" or "extreme")? Then I plan on putting the Dr. Performance box ontop with the BDTD, should I just run the BD on "performance"?

Thank in advance for any help. I hope my little 235hp SO pulls down atleast 300 today.

You should hit 300 with that stack!! I dynoed my best numbers in O/D off and you just get the truck up to 60 mph or around 1900 rpm's (mine anyways) and then punch it!!! I also had the best runs when I kept my t/q converter locked up!!

So OD off, get to 60mph then just romp on it? When I punch it am I holding the pedal for a while or do I stop at a certin point.

I hope my "MIL"(Malfunction Light Indicator) dosen't turn into a problem for me today.

Yeah I got up to 60 and held it there for about 10 seconds and then the dyno guy said " punch it"!!!

Maybe it depends on which kind of dyno your on. The guy that did mine also was behind the wheel. Started at 1700rpm all the way to redline. I think it was 5th on my 6spd.

I agree with Kevin. I was at 100hp less in third gear than OD. I was at around 60-65mph then floored it.

Keep an eye on your egts if your running stock turbo....

I hoping to get atleast 2 pulls in so i'll see how it turns out.

Nice video Shane, dang your truck realy smokes!

If there is a lot of people there i'll make sure to snap some pics. My camera takes video but I don't know how to get the sound to work.

Not sure how your 03 trans works and my 05 is different than the rest...

I'd want to make sure your in OD with converter locked whatever speed that may be. And high enough mph that it doesn't want to downshift to third.

Im not going to lie, im a little confused about the whole OD thing. I don't even run my truck with the OD on(well the indicator light is always off so?)

So what your saying is basically turn the od on, get up to 55mph(the speed when the tq converter locks up?, wait until it down shifts then punch it?)

You don't want it to downshift. Stay in od...

when the o/d light is lit, you are out of o/d. When its off, it allows o/d to resume.

Well I got back from the event a while ago. All I can say is, man im alleved. John and his father from Floor It Diesel where there, they were the ones running the dyno. They are super helpful, they answered all of my questions and then some. I can't thank these guys enough.

So any ways, my main goal was to break 300. Well I broke it and then some. My best run was 385hp/925tq. All I have on my truck is the AFE intake, BDTD and I stacked a Dr.Performance Stage ll box. All three runs had the Dr.P box on, my best run was with the BDTD on Tow/Economy mode, on "performance & extreme" my truck fell on it's face. I think I know why though, my overboost code came on after the first pull and I think the truck went into a limp mode. I need a Quad boost fooler no questions asked.

I was the first guy to run on the rollers and i've never dynoed before so I was a wee bit nervous. I decided to do it my self and I proceded with my three runs. On the second run I seen 1450* on the pyro so I got scared and backed out. Same deal on the 3rd run. Tommorow im going back to dyno again but im going to have John run it for me, I think he knows a couple more tricks then I do. Im pretty confident that I can hit right around 400hp, probley upper 390's.

Either way I had a friggin blast. I took about 60 pics so it'll be a while until I get them all posted.
