DTT torque converter?
my tranny is thinking about going south, when it does,I would like to know what to ask for at the trans shop,I see several here are running the DTT TC's,is it possible to bring my 1992 non-lockup to a lock-up?is that what I want?
I will be running about 225 hp when I'm done playing.thanx

You cant go wrong with DTT Products. I have run both the 89% and the 91% converters.. I like both but right now it has the 89 in it. You will NOT BELIEVE the DIFFERANCE in your truck after adding one of their converters..You will like the 89 for the power level that your looking at.And oh yeah.. get the valve body to! BIG DIFFERANCE..Call Bill with your questions..he'll answer all of them.. I'd let you drive my truck if you lived close by.You'd look like this
while driving it!
while driving it!
Give them a call -- 866-504-4002.
you will like it.
As far as changing it to a lock up you will possibly need a computer for the later trucks.
But this is a question for Bill !
Or you could add a switch to lock the converter manually, but you must unlock it while slowing .
A switch could be added that sensed "throttle at idle" and disconnect it.

You can go with a lock-up TC... but.... you'll need a fair bit more work to use it.
The cost will change because of the lock-up function.
There is no doubt that in our trucks you simply won't believe the difference.
If you decide to go this route, have Bill recommend the parts needed to deal with higher line pressures. This is one of the things that helps make his sytems ROCK !!!
As for TC's.... the 89% or 89%R is a nice compromise that allows you enough of an RPM buildup before it tightens up.
At your HP level, I'd suggest the 89% version. Bill may narrow it down between that and the "R" version based on your usage.
If you want to go up to the 91% you should really look at adding some extra RWHP to use the 91% properly.
It's only my opinion but I think the HP dividing line (in general) is about 285 RWHP or more is good for the 91%R model.
This is a "race" version that allows a bit more RPM to build before they tighten up on you...... Again, Bill can explain it better than I could possibly do.
Pastor bob.....

I agree. You just won't believe the difference. I have over 30,000 miles on my 91% DTT Tranny and it is still going strong. I am putting out more HP then what you are looking for and I mostly drive with the right foot to the floor
, that is why I choose the 91% converter. It has yet to fail me and I do test it quite often. I do not tow anything, just a bed full of dirt now and then. But it certainly GOES when I want it to. Thanks Bill and the crews across USA that install his products.

You will have to get a completely different transmission! The lockup units have a hollow input shaft that allows oil to flow into the TC to lock it up, the valve body is different, yours has no provision to lock up anything. Your best bet is to buy a complete lockup tranny and retrofit it. Done one for a gas job. You will need a newer tranny, from the inception to 1995. In 1996 they were all electronically controlled, dont even think about one of these trannies. I personally would shoot for a 1994-1995 tranny, you will need a couple of swithches and you are done electronically. You can get creative and add speed switches to unlock the OD and lock up automatically. I stuck with manual controls, but ISSPRO has speed switches that can be set up to your personal needs.
Good luck.
Good luck.
