Talking Drove my first 1st Gen CTD today

Drove a big nasty 91 250 4x4 5 speed with 300,000 miles on it. Put about 50 miles on it today, pulling a stump grinder around. Got to play with 4 low, got it stuck once, had a great time. That old truck is a tank. I took some pics of the interior, to use the term "ragged out" would be putting it mildly, this guy doesn't take care of his stuff. No horn (just the two wires sticking out of the steering wheel) no vents, no ***** (all busted off) dash instruments only worked when you hit a bump, the visor kept hanging right in my face, seats ripped up, no lights of any sort, etc. A pair of vice grips are handy in the cab. But it had power! Plenty of it, and it sounded good too. Someone in the past has tuned it up just a little. I need a farm truck like that now.

Watch out, once you come over to the dark side you never go back.

You're in the right place on this forum. I'd just love to start with another 1st gen now that mine is pretty much under control. Mine went the other direction, I bought it from a farmer and started one problem at a time. I've since sold my car, and am a full-time "trucker", ...er well and the GoldWing if two wheels count. Enjoy that old tank and it'll take you far.

I'm in the same boat as you. I drove a buddies and was hooked, then I bought it from him. It needed a lot when I got it. I've been addressing one (or five) things at a time and it almost looks like an acceptable truck.

Yup it seems a lot of them get pretty beat up..

When I got mine it was TRASHED.. body had tar allover it ( paving company truck ).. interior was destroyed, etc... pics: http://www.impaks.com/dodge92w250.asp

but after some work and time.. mine is starting to look good, give me another year and it will look brand new

YES! these are the last of the real trucks! locking hubs, NP205 cast iron, gear driven T case. mine has been in constant "beater duty" since I bought it new in 92, mile after mile of dirt desert roads and those "trails" I use to get to the tops of the mountains so I can keep all your radios and cell phones working.. I don't think there is a spot weld left under my dash that isn't broken!, rocks and rutts and washboard roads have taken their toll on the tough old girl, she sure squeeks and rattles! but gets me home every time! and the once bright white clear coat paint, not much of it left anymore, she sheds it a little every day, a nice combination of white flake, primer and surface "patina" now, she looks sooooo cool!

Yup, these trucks are ugly, loud, leaky, smelly, heavy, powerful, rough riding hunks of steel. I think thats why I love mine! I have a habit of gravitating towards vehicles like that, they tend to have a strong and dedicated following; VW's, Jeeps, CTD Dodges.............Im afraid of whats next.

Mine isn't ugly or smelly, but it does bounce me around often....

It also starts when nothing else does and it out pulls everything else on the place....!!!!!

They have their own charm, for sure....
