turbo mods ??

ok guys i have a 91 non intercooled ctd that i am putting a intercooler on useing the parts from my old 93 now i need to know what turbo or combo of turbo's should i use on this truck the 91 has a stock turbo on it H1C with a ??? cm "dirty air" and the 93 has a brand new stock turbo never installed it H1C with a ??cm "dirty air' i want a fast spool and a big boost in the end so what would be the best bet ?? both H1C turbos have the same compressor right? "clean air" but the "dirty air" sides are diffrent right what is the stock size for a 91 non ic and a 93 ic

The 91 should have a 21cm exhaust housing, the 93 should have an 18, however, the only way to know is to check. Look on the side of the housing, near where it attaches to the manifold on the firewall side.

The 91 (non-intercooled) compressor had a 50mm inducer with the 3" compressor housing inlet and is known as the "baby H1C". The 93 will have a 4" compressor housing inlet and a 54mm compressor inducer, 83mm compressor exducer.

Out of those choices, the 54mm compressor and 18cm housing is the best option. As for "quick spool and big boost", you'll need to give a price range and a fueling level for us to give advice.

well i can not find a # on the 91 exhaust housing but the 93 says 18.5 so what should i do lol and as far as quick spool and big boost i dont want to do anything to the truck other than with what parts i have now this is a truck i bought for my new driver to run for my auto transport company i have a set of 50 hp stock injectors for a 93 that i have put close to 30,000 on and i put a 3in straight pipe on the 91 with 3in stacks and i can do any pump tweaks that need to be done to the ve so out of the parts i have what would be the best setup for good strong power and a quick spool and btw the truck is a nv4500 conversion 4x4 reg cab flat bed i will be adding the ic from my old 93

The H1C's should both have a 54mm wheel, I know the later modles did for sure the WH1C and HX35 have 56mm wheels, I use to think the W was for wastegate but its not. the 18.5 is good but if you can find a 16 or a 12w/g you will like it more they will have a lot faster spool and will not get EGT's to high with out a lot of pump tweeking or injectors.

well i can do pump mods to the truck the free ones lol and i do have the set of 50 hp marine injectors that were in my old 93 so i can up grade fuel i wonder how cheap i can get a smaller housing for the H1C i may just use the 18.5 and pump up the fuel and maybe tweak the timing a lil with the new injectors they flow more than the stock 91 non ic one right ??

You'll like the 12cm for spool, but with bigger injectors it may get toasty on the top end. Use the 93's compressor wheel, housing, and backing plate.

The wheel stays with the turbo, just slap the small exhaust housing on the '93 turbo.

The old non-ic injectors flow pretty well. You'd need adapters to put the newer injectors into the older head(provided it's stock) I'm not sure if it would be worth it or not. What are the "50hp" injectors? Also, if you're going to be towing or hauling heavy, the 12cm housing can make for some pretty toasty egt's. I really liked mine for hot rodding around town, but hook up the trailer and I could peg a 1500 pyro in nothing flat.
