Drone Monster

Running around town it's no big deal. Even this old guy doesn't mind the bellowing beast for short drives. Put 3,000 lbs of truck camper in the bed and drive it for several hours a day, day after day, it gets real old. Can't have a conversation, can't listen to music and can't listen to a podcast of my favorite hate radio show. I have the 4"DE exhaust with their big straight through muffler.

Searching on the internet I found posts about a Aero Turbine muffler that's supposed to eliminate drone. Aero Turbine doesn't exist anymore but Jones Turbine does. Apparently Aero bought Jones Exhaust and are selling the muffler under the Jones name. So I ordered a Jones Turbine JT-4040XL, the longer one with resonator. We'll see if it helps.

Question is where to mount it. I read to put it under the cab. Stock location the muffler starts at front of the bed. moving it forward is going to require fabbing new hanger mounts, yay.
Anyone with experience eliminating drone?

I have only run 4" in a straight pipe. Stopping it under the middle of the truck droned the worst. It got better after I kicked it out in front of the rear tire - but still kinda droned.

One I got it past the rear axle, angled slightly down, the drone is gone.

I have the DE 4 inch system ready to put on my truck. I got the straight through muffler. I was hoping it would be quieter than what I have now which is the stock system with a pipe in place of the stock muffler. It isn't that bad unless you have the right window down and go by cars or a building. When I get it finally installed I'll post back with how it sounds. I wonder if I can post audio here.

We plan to head to Oklahoma at the end of August. Then it will be some time before I get set up in the garage to do work. Here in the trailer park I can do almost nothing.
