I dont like straight exhaust on 3rd gens unless they have done some turbo/exh manifold upgrades. A straight through muffler wont decrease horsepower either, there are plenty of guys making over 1000hp with mufflers.

I did muffler elimination kit on my previous 03. REALLY REALLY Loud with bad drone. I immeditely ordered a MBRP and it was much much better.

Having not muffler I couldn't even drive with the windows down it was loud. Plus it really was distrubing the peace for no good reason. MBRP was a good price and sounded nice.

Thanks,

Jay

Muffler elimination on my '06 is barely louder than stock. Megacabs have a resonator that eliminate drone or excessive noise. I love running with no muffler, and I'm not crazy about loud exhausts.

If you leave your cat on, it won't sound near as bad as an 03-04 or a "no cat system". You can always come back w/ a magnaflow if it's too loud. Magnaflow 4" are less restrictive than the MBRPs.

3rd gens straight-piped with stock turbos sound bad, IMO. A little better with a big turbo, but they'll never sound as sweet as a straight-piped 12v.

I ordered a Geno's MEK for mine. I plan to run it with the kitty in place. I'm not going to ditch it anytime soon. They sound pretty good with just the cat in place...

its gonna have some drone inside with no muffler. I have had a muffler on and off my truck a couple times. there is more drone with an auto I think always under a constant load. it is very loud when you get a different turbo. if you like noise you will be fine. if you tow a trailer alot I think you may not like having a straight pipe

My truck was straight piped when I got it, with no cat. I couldnt stand the sound. It was ok, unless I really got into the throttle, then it sounded like a ricer on steroids and had a real bad drone. I welded a cat back on it and it's just right for me now. It's a lot louder than stock, but isnt annoying and has a decent sound to it. It get's pretty loud with a load going uphill but is bearable.

I have the Geno's ME kit on mine with the Cat left on. I think it sounds great. I have no noticeable drone while towing or unloaded. Even the wife thinks it sounds better now!

Mine is straight but I noticed when I had my fueler off it didnt sound as good as when I re installed it. Maybe has to do with timing or fueling altering sound or maybe I'm reaching here?

Yah, I straight piped mine, but at first kept my resonator. I thought the truck sojunded good. Then I got a wild hair and lost the resonator.... this sucker is so loud, my wife can hear me 3 miles away leaving the grocery store. Time to find a good muffler
Drone isn't too bad except when towing my boat.

5" from the turbo back...love it. if you tow over 10k frequently, the drone is very bad. i only do it a few times a month so its not a big deal

Is the resonator on the later trucks straight thru? Mine got much louder and droned with the turbo so I put on a second muffler. That stopped the drone but it's still loud in the cab. I'm wondering if the late model tailpipe/resonator would help. Craig
