Quietest Straight Through Muffler

For a stock 3" exhaust what are my options of the quietest muffler. My mechanic's recommending a Magnaflow but I think I've heard here they are loud! And he wants $200 just to remove the stock muffler and install the new one.

Hushpower. I have heard nothing but good about them.
The muffler is $200 by itself.

You can also do a Donaldson for around $75.00 but its 4". You would need 2-4"x3" reducers. Alot of people say they are quiet as stock.

I use a 5" Donaldson and would not call them quiet. They definately took care of the drone my exhaust had using the 5" muffler that came with the Silverline System. The truck is not annoying in the cab but it is not what I would call quiet. I like the sound of the Donaldson but quiet means different things to everyone.

I just installed a Mbrp 4" muffler. Louder but not annoying. NO DRONE! With the windows up you can hardly tell the difference from stock. Sure flows better now! Ron

I have a resonator and I've heard that helps keep the noise down. So there's only room for a 24" muffler; 4" in 3" out. TDR mag article recommended a Walker but haven't heard of anyone using one on the forums. I'll call Ryder today.

i know it is a 5" but the 3" is to restrictive the 5" is restricted to 4" on the inside just use an adapter on turbo side he was going to have to get a offset pipe to alighn back up with the tail pipe anyway. for about $40 more he can take it on out in 5"

I have a 4' dynomax system and love it I can hear the turbo over my exhaust and it seems to flow awesome.I wouldnt see the gain in keeping stock 3" size since 4" flows better and will get egts down..as well you could use just the 4'' dynomax and a 4'' tailpipe the cost here is like 160.00 or if commited to keeping stock 3" tailpipe reduce after muffler which would cost approx 90.00 with reducer.

Well I'm a little short of $ so I'm thinking a 4" hushpower and a 3" tail pipe adaptor. I'd like to keep the resonator for noise control. When Iget a few more bucks together then add a 4" tail.

I understand the money issue. That's what I intend. I put the mbrp on and used an adapter to use the stock 3" tail pipe. When a few dollars come my way then I'll get the 4" tail pipe. Even though that I'm still using the 3" tail pipe I can still feel a difference. Ron

Magnaflow is too quiet for me, I bought their high-end kit because I got it for less then their cheap kit but I only kept the muffler on for a week, it was about the same as stock but it had more of a deep sharper sound, it was nice but way to quiet.
