Door questions

I got a driver door off of a mid to late 80's (looking at the grille) RamCharger. It was in great condition, a little rust, for $50. Now my question is, when I was putting the door on, I noticed on the door lock it said "Electric Lock". I looked in the door and sure enough, there was a solenoid on the lock at the top and a motor or solenoid on the locking mechanism. BUT there are NO buttons any where. How does this work? It also has manual windows.

Also, here is a hint. The post that the door latches on to is different between the Ram and the RamCharger. The RamCharger has a bigger post. So I stole one off the 90 F150 I have. Works great!

Sounds like the early to mid 80's power locks. Bout 90% sure they work by manually moving the post up and down, and the pass. side "followed" the movement of the driver side.

If that is indeed what they are, don't hook it up; as, every old Dodge I ever had to fool with, that had these type locks, would eventually decide to sporadically LOCK you out of the truck.

They will only do it when you jump out for opening a gate, or the like, usually with the engine running.

I have had them do this and the key would not let you back in.

Yea, I do not have them hooked up, and probably won't now either. Thanks!

That was a common thing of vehicles of that era. A lot of times just shutting the door would do it. It was hard to sound professional when you call and ask the customer to bring in a spare key.
