door hinge adjustment

my friend and i just swapped out my old bent up passenger door with a used better door. we got it all on. it was only 5 bolts, but it's not lining up right. we tried loosening the bolts and moving it around, but it still needs more adjustment.
seems there are some other bolts where the hinges are attached to the frame, but the only way we can figure out how to get to them is by removing the dashboard? is there a simple way to adjust the door...or do i have to remove the dashboard?
anyone done this before give me some advice? i would sure appreciate it

I merged the two duplicate threads.

So tonight Heath and me are replacing the Driver's side door in his 89 First Gen.

The new one is nice, but we can't seem to get it to line up correctly with the frame to close. It sits a little low, and the edge of the door towards the front of the truck rubs on the frame as well.

Here's the question...

Which set of bolts do you loosen as the other person maneuvers the door around to the proper angle ?

The bolts holding the hinges to the door, or the bolts holding the hinges to the frame ?

If it's option #2, and I hope this is not the case, how do you get at the upper hinge bolts that are behind the dashboard ? Remove the dash ?

TIA.

Fore/aft and up/down are done on the cab, in/out is done on the door.

As I remember it you just have to loosen and pull the kick panel away from the wall. There was enough room to get the plastic body plug out and put a ratchet in without completely removing the panel.

o.k thank you. we got to the bottom bolt's on the back of the hinge (i'm thinking this might be what you are calling the "kick panel"), but the top bolt's are blocked by the dashboard. is the kick panel part of the dashboard?
i've already been swearing up a storm

For the passanger door, you have to pop out the glove box, or atleast open it up so it flips down. It will require at least an 8"ext if memory seves me correctly... Now on the drivers side, that is a PITA.. You can get to the upper one.. But it ain't funt at all.

No the kick panel is not part of the dash, it is th plastic piece that runs from the floor up to the dash. For the dash you can just loosen it there is going to be a bolt at the bottom curved part of the dash that goes through a metal bracket that is incorporated with the dash itself. Remove that bolt and you should have enough room to get to the upper hinge bolts. It will also be helpful if you remove the glovebox completely by taking the 6 ( I think ) philips screws from the bottom, it will give you better access to the inside of the dash.

Hope that helps you out.
