diesel guzzler
My truck use to do good on milage but here latly after messing with all the power screws adn everythign i have noticed a big decline in milage. will it even out or just keep gogin down. i need to be saving diesel right now.
First thing is to back that smoke screw out, it does absolutely nothing but make big clouds of smoke when you take off or shift. Smoke is wasted fuel, nothing more. Back the starwheel off some too, until you think the truck is too doggy, then run it back in a little. You could try going easier on the skinny pedal too.
at $2.29/gallon, diesel isn't something we want our trucks to slurp up!
I backed off my smoke screw and she hardly smokes (unless the pedal is hammered) and has picked up 1-2mpg around town.
It's hard to drive it around town like my grandfather would. And with the smoke, tire spinning and turbo whistle, it's fun, but when it costs nearly $60 for a tank of go-juice ya gotta learn when to chill out!

Yeah its crazy here its freakin 2.10 for diesel at the truck stops. where its usually 1.50 to the gasstaions 1.70. i havent gone to a regular station yet. All i know is the tractor diesel looks awful good.
back in May 2k3, i bought my 93 D250 club cab AT and was paying $1.34/gallon. now, 10/04 i'm paying $2.35/gallon and up! i think its time to start slapping some of those oil makers in the face and drop the diesel fuel costs down! there is absolutely no reason for diesel fuel to be anywhere near the cost of gas!
Has anyone got a good explanation of why diesel fuel is higher than gas? A few years back diesel was always the lower price well below gas. I thought diesel was a by-product of gasoline. Just a wondering thought.--Thanks

Prices are nuts to say the least. Even a few months ago they weren't THAT bad. Being Canadain we measure ours in litres and right now its 94 cents for gas and about 98-99 for diesel which is also self serve. However with dad working for a trucking company we're getting it for 87 cents. Not a bad deal, no, but its still amazing to see such a raise in moolah. Heh... Diesel was even half the cost of gas at one point.... O.o
Every winter diesel jumps up above gas. It's because of people in the Northeast US. They use "heating fuel" to heat their homes in the winter. From what I understand, it's basically diesel. This causes limits on the supply side of the equation, upping the price. Don't worry, next spring diesel will be back below gas, get used to it, it happens every year.

Ya, $60 and it didn't even fill er up. $2.35 a gallon around here....makes propane power look mighty good. You can burn #2 "furnace oil" which is EXACTLY the same product as #2 diesel in your truck though I think it's colored with a dye. While I've heard of them checking the fuel tanks of commercial rigs looking for untaxed diesel, I've never heard of them pulling over POV's and checking their tanks. I'd advise against going in your Dodge Cummins and picking up a 55 gallon drum of #2 "furnace oil" "for your garage stove" as that may be a little obvious. But it all burns good and the same....minus the road taxes. Chuck
didnot seem to guzzel diesel today. towing a 28 foot trailer with race car. got roughly 11 miles to a gallon with lots of hill climbing and lower gear/ high rpms. very happy with my 92 cummins turbo.
They have also figured out that the "Big Rigs" use up alot of fuel and alot of the gassers are getting better mileage so they decide to go after the diesels to offset their already inflated prices! I guess all we can do is "Grin and Bare" it as all of us Americans have done for so long.
Don't get me wrong, oil companies are probably making more than their fair share, but most of the blame lies in other areas. There are no new refineries being built because the environmentalist wackos won't allow it, same with new exploration on American soil. The hurricanes down in Florida disrupted supply for awhile, not allowing any crude to get to our refineries. And the Chinese economy is growing at amazing rates, and they are consuming more and more oil every year. Most of the problem lies on the supply side of the equation: Low supply= high price. Barring some miraculous technical breakthrough, I expect to see $3 fuel before I see $2 fuel again. Such is life. You ought to see what people in Europe pay for gas.
