Did I get a Monday pump or a Friday pump?

In my other post concerning my leaking fuel pin (top of pump full of fuel), I took the pump top to my fathers today to disassemble it. I read Jim Lane's sticky about it the day before so I new what to expect (Thanks Jim!). Well I get it apart and can't find the sealing o-ring. Just to verify to myself I'm not entirely stupid, I had another pump sitting on the shelf and decided to tear it apart. Guess what, found the o-ring no prob on that one. My other pump was missing the o-ring entirely. Also the hex headed plug with hole through the center was not even tight. No wonder it leaked!! What do ya think 'bout that one?

Also, I was the first one in the pump, I broke loose the black paint on the fasteners.

That happens to me a lot. I debate taking something apart because I don't want to make it worse. Then when I take it apart I find that it is totally fubarred and that it was a miracle that it ran and that there is almost no way I could have made it worse.

Hope it goes back together well,
JP.
