I noticed on my passenger side (see picture) that the inner bearing location is black. I assume it has been running hot.
My question - I assume the axel is fine? I noticed in the other thread his are the same color. By the way that is an excellent article. I did end up purchasing the proper tool from Napa. I followed the FSM for proper torque settings to set the free play.
Also, the truck is on proper jack stands. The brick in the picture is holding the brake caliper.
Looks like a bearing may have spun on the spindle although hard to tell in a picture. The black area looks a little rough in the picture, I'd clean it up with emery cloth. The axle will be fine. Inner bearing should go onto the spindle snuggly but not need to be driven on or be loose. Unless it's real bad the spindle should be able to be cleaned up enough to work. Good Luck

I had a similar experience. I used emery cloth, cleaned it up, and did the proper torque sequencing for bearing adjustment. Never had an issue since, and I've had it apart multiple times since. No more markings.
It's most likely a result of improper torque sequencing / bearing play procedures by a previous assembly.
