Is it a dana 60 or 80?

I purchased an rear end today from a 94 cummins 2500 I think?
Purchased it for the hubs, drums and backing plates to try and install them on my dana 71 with 307 gears and have removable drums without taking off the floating axle.
Tomorrow will try it on a 91.5 rear end if it does not rain.
The 94 rear end has a larger axle, about 2" in diameter and the axle tube is about 4" in diameter and just before the backing plate flange the tubing changes to around 3".
The drums are 13" which is normal, with 2.5" shoes.
Is it a dana 60 or 80?

Any numbers cast in the passenger side tube or on the differential housing?

There were different options. With a tow-package option, they got the 80. I've also heard that the transmission dictated what rear end it got as well. Although, all of the 3500 trucks got the 80 regardless of manual or auto trans.

A friend of mine had a '94 with the NV4500 with a Dana 80. I think the under-hood tag said "HD Tow Package" or "HD Package." Something along those lines.

Its either an 80 or a 70, if it came out a 2500 auto its a 70 a manual its an 80, I assume its a srw axle so it didn't come out of a 3500.

I know my 80 has an "80" stamped on part of the webbing around the pinion its in big numbers and is up side down when under the truck. Also there should be a tag between the diff bolts that will tell you the BOM of the axle.

It has a tag on the cover with 3.54 gears and two other series of numbers.
What about the large to smaller axle tube?

A manual should be an 80, look for the number casting on the front(pinion) side of the diff.

I wouldn't off a good Dana 80 for a brake conversion, that's what the 60s and 70s are good for.

Mark.

I went to Dana Holding Corp www2.dana.com/expertforms/deabill.aspx with the BOM 605596-6 and found it is a Chry Model 80 Rear 1994-1995.5 W2500 W/ABS.
